BA Philosophy, Open and Distance Modality



Program Objective

To train professionals in philosophy capable of proposing and accomplishing projects that aid to the improvement of the contemporary society, based on the application of philosophic competences in order to solve problems.



Graduate Profile

A Bachelor in Philosophy:

» Is an expert in the field of humanities that sees reality, according to his specialty, as the interaction of humanistic, scientific, social, cultural and economic processes.  The graduate is trained to analyze the forms of argumentation that are held by our beliefs, as well as being able to analyze political, religious, scientific and artistic proposals, among others. 

» Is a professional on analytic, synthetic and critical thought, of basic competences to solve problems and to provide a significant influence on social difficulties. The graduate is a valuable element at work and at multidisciplinary team tasks of promotion and provision of educational services.

» Confronts difficult situations creatively and enterprisingly. The graduate leads and coordinates with a wide socio-cultural interaction and manages with a participative leadership. 

» Is a professional that takes part of research processes in the fields of education, arts and humanities and is able to communicate efficiently with members of different sectors of society which the graduate manages with an ethical attitude built by basic human values such as: honesty, responsible work, spirit of service, respect for life as well as the concept of democracy and harmonious coexistence.

This liaison leads the graduate to develop philosophical research as the core of his professional performance in fields such as teaching in secondary and higher education, diffusion and disclosure of diverse cultural products, as well as consultancy work and coordination of interdisciplinary groups, of research and development.




We can specifically assert that a graduate in Philosophy may be able to:

» Be advisor in educational projects, academic and extra-curricular.
» Be a teacher of institutions of secondary and higher education
» Be trainer in public or private institutions or organizations on the cultural area.
» Be advisor in the planning and development of research programs in interdisciplinary groups pertaining to public or private organizations.
» Be a commentator or critic in the diverse mass media of massive communication.
» Be advisor in Social service programs, participating in the integration of professional groups.
» Be advisor in the planning and development of diverse programs that aim to promote culture in the centers of cultural diffusion.
» Be an analyst in publishing companies.

Basic Information to Applicants of the BA in Philosophy, Open and Distance Modality

The B.A. in Philosophy, open and distance modality consists of 13 modules where fundamental problems of philosophy are examined, from their historical side to their formulation and contemporary alternatives.

When the all the modules are concluded and in order to obtain the degree certificate, the student may choose the options included in the General Regulations for University Assessments.

To be admitted in the bachelor’s degree, it is necessary that the applicant fulfill the following requirements:

 

1)To pass the introductory module, which is generic to all open and distance options of the University, and  which aids the applicant to get familiar with the methodology and conception of the open and distance education. The module length of is approximately one month and it is given by the Continuing, Open and Distance Education Department (DECAD in Spanish)

There are two dates:
1. In June
2. In Novemeber       

It’s necessary to contact previously (one month in advance) to the coordinator of the BA in Philosophy Mr. Antonio Pedraza Garrido to the following email: jpedraza@uach.mx. The Coordination office will contact DECAD to be admitted to the module. 

2. Once the introductory module was passed, all the paperwork must be done to begin with the BA in philosophy, open modality, in this case, Module 1. –Philosophical problems. Normally, the first module will start, depending on the dates, in the month of August or January. All arrangements must be directed to coordination of the BA in Philosophy, open modality, to the email indicated previously.

3. Each module of the degree’s plan of studies must be completed within a maximum of 4 months.
